Château de Blois

The Royal Château of Blois is a significant historical landmark in the Loire Valley, renowned for housing seven kings and ten queens. The site showcases four distinct architectural epochs, ranging from the 13th-century medieval fortress to Gothic, Renaissance, and classic wings. This synthesis of French architectural history is visible in its four distinct façades, featuring a famous corkscrew staircase and richly decorated interiors that reflect Renaissance court life. Key historical elements include the medieval Hall of the States-General and the Tower of Foix. The castle served as a residence for monarchs and hosted major events, such as the assassination of Henry I, Duke of Guise, and the escape of Queen Marie de’ Medici.

As a "Musée de France," the site houses the Museum of Fine Arts, which displays over 35,000 works in its collection, with more than 1,000 objects exhibited. Visitors can view paintings by masters such as Rubens, Ingres, and Boucher. The castle is open year-round, excluding January 1 and December 25. Hours vary by season, ranging from 9 am to 6:30 pm between April and September, and 10 am to 5 pm during winter months. The ticket office closes 30 minutes before closing time. Admission tickets start from €16.00.

An audioguided tour is available for an additional €3 per person, offered in eight languages, including French and English. The tour lasts between 1 and 1.5 hours and features magnetic loop systems for the hearing-impaired. A new family tour option is also available.
