The Musée des Pêcheries, also known as the Musée de la Pêche, is a "Musée de France" dedicated to the maritime heritage and historic fishing industry of the Concarneau to Pont-Aven region. Located at 3 rue Vauban within the Ville Close, the museum serves as a pioneering institution for preserving the economic and cultural history of local fishing. The collection features model boats, plans, videos, dioramas, and everyday objects that illustrate the lives of sailors and the evolution of the trade.
A key highlight of the museum is the Hémérica, a restored side trawler moored at the museum quay. This vessel offers visitors a tangible connection to the daily realities of maritime work. The museum is designed to be accessible to persons with reduced mobility and offers facilities including a shop, a film projection room, and meeting spaces. Guided tours are available upon request, while self-guided exploration is permitted at all times. Staff members speak French, English, German, and Spanish, assisting international visitors.
Currently, the museum is closed for renovations and is scheduled to reopen in June 2027. Prior to this closure, the museum was open every day except Monday, with daily hours in July and August. Admission was previously listed as free access. For the most up-to-date information regarding the reopening date and future visiting hours, travelers are advised to contact the museum directly at 02 98 97 10 20. This institution provides a significant cultural insight into the coastal history of Brittany, making it a valuable stop for those interested in maritime heritage.
