Miroir d'eau

The Miroir d'eau in Bordeaux is a contemporary tourist attraction located across from the historic Place de la Bourse. Designed by landscape artist Michel Corajoud and created in 2006, it is recognized as the world's largest reflecting pool, covering 3,450 square meters. The site is part of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed "Bordeaux, Port of the Moon."

The design consists of a giant granite slab with 2 cm of water that alternates between a mirror effect and artificial misting. Water is stored in an 800 m³ underground reservoir and pumped to the surface through channels beneath the slab. A computer-controlled system regulates the water flow and temperature. Approximately 900 injectors generate fog, which precedes the mirror effect. This creates a unique visual experience, reflecting the 18th-century Place de la Bourse, originally inaugurated in 1749.

Located between Quai de la Douane and Quai Louis XVIII near the Garonne River, the site serves as a popular meeting place, especially for children and couples who enjoy playing in the cool water during summer. It is noted as the city's most photographed location. While specific opening hours or admission fees are not applicable as it is a public space, visitors are encouraged to visit during different times of day to see the changing reflections. The Miroir d'eau offers a striking contrast between modern engineering and historic architecture, symbolizing Bordeaux's expansion beyond its medieval walls.
