Parc de la Garoupe

Parc de la Garoupe, located at Cap d’Antibes in Antibes, is closely associated with the famous Plage de la Garoupe. This area is renowned for its silky white sands, crystal-clear waters, and a rocky headland ideal for snorkeling. The beach gained international fame in the 1920s when American socialites Mr. and Mrs. Murphy cleaned the shore to attract wealthy friends, leading to visits by celebrities such as Hemingway, Fitzgerald, and Picasso.

Most of the sandy area is private, occupied by sophisticated beach clubs such as Plage Keller, Petit Plage, and Plage Joseph during the summer season, which runs from late spring through September or October. Only two small patches are reserved for public use. To preserve the atmosphere, selfies are banned on the beach, encouraging visitors to enjoy the moment. From mid-October through April, the beach clubs close, and the area becomes more accessible to the public.

Nearby, the Garoupe Lighthouse and Chapel offer additional points of interest. The lighthouse is ranked as a notable attraction in Antibes and is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The chapel is a listed historic site featuring medieval and sacred art elements, with legends attributing its dedication to Selene, the goddess of the Moon, in Antiquity. The lighthouse has been open to visitors since 2024, though specific hours vary by season and holidays. Visitors are advised to check the Antibes town hall website for current times.
