The Colmar Market, known locally as the Marché Couvert, is a historic food hall located in the heart of Colmar, Alsace. Housed in a distinctive neo-Gothic building with an iron-frame structure designed in 1865, the market stands as a testament to the region’s Germanic-French heritage. Originally constructed to provide weather-proof space for traders near the old customs house, the building has been restored to its original function and was voted the 10th most beautiful market in France in 2023.

Visitors can explore the interior, admiring the stone facade and natural light that fills the space. Approximately twenty merchants operate within the hall, offering high-quality local products. Shoppers can find fresh fruits and vegetables, butchery items, cheeses, dairy products, bakery goods, and fish. The market is a cornerstone of Alsatian culinary identity, particularly renowned for its local cheeses and wines.

The market operates daily, with specific hours varying by day. It is closed on Mondays and French national holidays. From Tuesday to Thursday, it is open from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with Thursday starting at 7:00 AM. On Fridays, hours extend to 7:00 PM, while Saturday hours run from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Sunday hours are from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Located at Rue des Écoles, the market is easily accessible and situated within walking distance of the train station. It is surrounded by traditional half-timbered facades, enhancing the charming atmosphere of the historic center.
