Les Invalides

Les Invalides, located in the 7th arrondissement, is a historic architectural complex originally commissioned by King Louis XIV in 1670 to shelter wounded soldiers. Today, it serves as a major cultural site housing the Army Museum and the Dome Church, which contains the tomb of Napoleon Bonaparte. The complex is situated near the Seine, the Eiffel Tower, and the Champ de Mars, making it a convenient stop for travelers exploring central Paris.

The site is generally open daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with last entry at 5:30 PM. The museum is closed on January 1, May 1, and December 25. Visitors should note that the Musée de l'Armée may occasionally close due to technical issues or high temperatures, so checking current status before visiting is advisable. Standard admission costs €17, granting access to the permanent collections, the Dôme des Invalides, Napoleon’s tomb, and temporary exhibitions. Discounted tickets are available for eligible visitors at €12, while EU nationals aged 18–25 pay €5. A combined ticket for the Musée de l'Armée and the Musée Rodin is available for €26.

The best times to visit are during spring (April–June) and fall (September–October) for mild weather and fewer crowds. Early mornings or late afternoons on weekdays also offer a quieter experience. The museum features late-night hours on the first Friday of each month from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Visitors can explore France’s military history through uniforms, weapons, and artifacts.
