Marché aux Flowers

The Marché aux Fleurs, located at Cours Saleya in Nice’s Old Town, is a historic and essential tourist attraction that has operated since 1861. Recognized as one of France’s most beautiful markets and registered by the National Council of Culinary Arts as an "exceptional market," it offers an authentic atmosphere where visitors can interact with florists and growers. The market operates year-round from Tuesday through Sunday, typically from 6:00 AM to 5:30 PM, though fruit and vegetable vendors usually close by 1:30 PM, while flower stalls remain open until approximately 5:30 PM.

The site holds significant historical importance, as Nice opened the world’s first wholesale cut flower market in 1897. For nearly a century, flowers grown in the hills were shipped via railroad to cities across France and Europe, including shipments to Tsar Nicholas II in Russia. Although the wholesale section has since moved, the daily market at Cours Saleya continues to supply local floral needs and attracts crowds for its colorful displays. The market features a wide variety of flowers, plants, fruit, vegetables, local crafts, and gourmet specialties.

In 2021, the area was designated part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the market was recognized as a 2026 TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice. It is easily accessible via public transport and parking, situated near major attractions such as the Promenade des Anglais, Castle Hill, and Lascaris Palace.
