Musée d'Art Moderne

The Musée d'Art Moderne et d'Art Contemporain (MAMAC) in Nice is a prominent cultural institution dedicated to art from the late 1950s to the present day. Opened on June 21, 1990, the museum is housed in a distinctive building designed by architects Yves Bayard and Henri Vidal. The structure features a neo-classical square plan with white Carrara marble facades and is shaped like a tetrapod arch spanning the Paillon river. It is located at Place Yves Klein, near Place Garibaldi and the Esplanade Niki de Saint Phalle.

The museum spans approximately 4,500 square meters across three levels, containing nine showrooms. The first floor hosts temporary exhibitions, while the upper floors display permanent collections. The holdings focus on avant-garde movements, particularly European New Realism, featuring works by artists such as Arman, Yves Klein, Martial Raysse, and César Baldaccini. The museum also includes Pop Art, Minimalism, and Free Figuration.

Entry to the museum is free for all visitors. The facility is open daily from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, with the exception of Mondays and certain public holidays. This schedule allows ample time for visitors to explore the extensive collections. The museum holds the "Musée de France" label, recognizing its cultural significance.

The location offers easy access via public transportation, and the surrounding area includes the Promenade des Arts, which connects the museum to the theater.
