Musée des Confluences

The Musée des Confluences in Lyon is a striking modern science and anthropology center located at 86 Quai Perrache, 69002 Lyon. Situated on the tip of the Lyon peninsula at the junction of the Saône and Rhône rivers, the building was designed by Coop Himmelb(l)au in a deconstructivist style using glass and steel. It symbolizes the merging of rivers and knowledge. Established in 2014, the museum features over 2 million artifacts exploring the story of the world from various cultural and scientific perspectives.

Visitors explore the world through curiosity, with collections encompassing natural history, human sciences, and technology. The permanent itinerary includes four rooms covering the origin of the universe, the evolution of life, and cultural diversity. Key exhibits feature dinosaur skeletons, Egyptian mummies, samurai armor, minerals, and a replica of the second artificial Earth satellite. The museum hosts 3–4 temporary exhibitions annually and various events such as shows, concerts, and lectures.

Opening hours vary: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm; Thursday from 11:00 am to 10:00 pm; and Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. The museum remains open late until 10:00 pm on the first Thursday of each month. Admission is €9 for adults, with a discounted rate of €6 after 5:00 pm. Entry is free for children. Visitors are encouraged to book online to avoid queues. Accessible via buses C7, C10, 15, 63, and the T1 tram, the site offers spectacular architecture and terrace views, making it a top tourist attraction in Lyon.
