Musée Henri Matisse

The Musée Henri Matisse is located in the Cimiez district of Nice, housed in a 17th-century villa surrounded by olive trees. The museum holds a significant collection of nearly 600 works donated by the artist and his heirs, tracing Matisse’s artistic evolution from the 1890s to his later cut-out gouache papers. This collection includes paintings, drawings, and sculptures that offer a comprehensive view of his creative process.

The museum is open daily except Tuesdays. During the winter months (November 1 to March 31), it operates from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, while summer hours (April 1 to October 31) extend to 6:00 PM. The ticket office closes 30 minutes before closing time. Visitors should note that the museum is closed on January 1st, Easter Sunday, May 1st, and December 25th.

Admission is €12 for individual entry, with a reduced group rate of €9 per person for groups of ten or more, which requires advance booking. Residents of Nice and the Métropole Nice Côte d'Azur can enter for free using the Nice Museums Pass, as do children under 18 from the metropolitan area.

Access to the museum is primarily through the main entrance on Level -2, reached via a grand staircase outside the modern wing. Alternative accessible garden entrances are available at 164 Avenue des Arènes, Boulevard de Cimiez, avenue du Monastère, and place du Monastère. The site is served by several bus lines, and bike-sharing services and car parking are available nearby.
