Musée National de la Tapisserie

The Musée National de la Tapisserie, also known as the Cité Internationale de la Tapisserie, is located at Rue des Arts, 23200 Aubusson, France. Inaugurated on July 10, 2016, it integrates the collections of the former Musée départemental de la tapisserie d’Aubusson. The museum celebrates the art of low-warp weaving, a craft practiced in the Aubusson-Felletin region for nearly six centuries. This craftsmanship is recognized by UNESCO.

The institution showcases the six-hundred-year history of tapestry art, featuring works by renowned artists such as Le Corbusier, Georges Braque, and a unique Man Ray reproduction. As a public institution, it has cultural, artistic, and educational missions, serving as a hub for contemporary creativity and a learning center while supporting the private economic sector.

Current and upcoming exhibitions include Tribute to George Sand (running until September 2026), L'imaginaire de Hayao Miyazaki en tapisserie d'Aubusson (until December 2026), and Le Chant du Monde by Jean Lurçat - Back in Aubusson, 60 Years Later (April 2026 to November 2026).

Opening hours vary by season. During summer (July–August), the museum is open daily from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, with specific Tuesday hours from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. For the rest of the year, it is generally open from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Visitors can explore the rich heritage of Aubusson tapestries, combining historical artifacts with modern artistic interpretations.
