Parc de la Colline du Château

Parc de la Colline du Château is a 19.3-hectare urban park located in Nice, situated between the Old Town and the port. Perched at 92 meters above sea level, the park offers exceptional panoramic views of the Bay of Angels, the city center, and the surrounding Prealps. The site holds significant historical value, as Nice was founded here over a millennium ago. While the original medieval castle has long since disappeared, a new wooden replica of the fortress stands on the plateau, serving as a visual reminder of the area’s past.

Access to the park is free and open daily. In winter, the park is open from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM, while summer hours extend until 8:00 PM. Visitors can reach the summit via several routes. The most direct path involves climbing 213 monumental steps from Rue Rossetti, a journey that takes approximately 15 minutes and offers intermediate viewpoints. Alternatively, visitors can use the free elevator located at the end of the Quai des États-Unis, which operates from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM in summer and 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM in winter. This elevator provides essential access for those with limited mobility or those pushing strollers.

The park features shaded walkways, inclusive playgrounds, and picnic areas. It is a popular spot for relaxation and photography, allowing visitors to escape the bustle of the streets below. The combination of historical ruins, modern replicas, and natural greenery makes it a key destination for understanding the geography and history of Nice.
