Parc du Pharo

Parc du Pharo, also known as the Jardin du Pharo, is a scenic green space located on the Pharo hill in Marseille, offering visitors unparalleled views of the Old Port and the Mediterranean Sea. Commissioned by Napoleon III in 1852, the gardens are situated next to the Palais du Pharo, a 19th-century imperial residence built between 1854 and 1871. The palace was designed as a stone replica of the Villa Eugénie in Biarritz, intended to withstand the strong Mistral winds. Although Napoleon III and Empress Eugénie never occupied the palace due to the fall of the empire in 1871, Empress Eugénie eventually regained ownership in 1884 and donated the property to the city.
