Place de la Concorde

Place de la Concorde is the largest public square in Paris, spanning 20 acres and serving as the grand gateway between the Champs-Élysées and the Tuileries Gardens. Originally commissioned in 1748 as Place Louis XV, the octagonal square holds profound historical significance. It was renamed Place de la Révolution during the French Revolution, becoming the site of over 1,200 executions, including those of King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, between 1793 and 1795. It was later renamed Place de la Concorde in 1830 to symbolize national reconciliation.

The square features bronze fountains, sculptures, and statues representing eight major French cities at its corners. A central landmark is the ancient Egyptian Obelisk, which arrived in 1836. The site is bordered by historic buildings such as the Hôtel de Crillon and the Hôtel de la Marine.
