Plage de l'Anse de Men-Blavet

Perros-Guirec is the main seaside town of the Côte de Granit Rose, the Pink Granite Coast, in the Côtes-d'Armor department of Brittany. The anse, or cove, of Men-Blavet is one of the small sheltered corners of this shoreline.

The coast around Perros-Guirec is known for its rounded pink and orange granite boulders, which have been weathered into strange shapes along the shore. They give the beaches and coves a distinctive look, and the colours seem to deepen at sunrise and sunset. The coves are small and sheltered by rocks, which makes the water calmer than on the open beaches, and families often find them easier for paddling. Fine sand is typical of the beaches along this part of the coast, and the water is clean but cool, even in summer.

Brittany has some of the largest tides in Europe, and that affects every visit. At high tide a small cove can shrink to a narrow strip of sand, while at low tide the rocks and the sand extend far out. It is wise to check the tide table before you plan a swim or a walk on the rocks, and to keep an eye on the incoming tide if you explore the shoreline. The paths down to small coves can be steep in places, so wear shoes with a good grip.

The coastal footpath known as the Sentier des Douaniers, the former customs officers' path, which forms part of the GR 34 long-distance trail, runs along the shore of Perros-Guirec and links the coves and points. It is one of the best ways to see the granite landscape, and walking a short stretch gives views over the sea and the islands offshore. Boat trips to the Sept-Îles, a seabird reserve, leave from the main Trestraou beach in the town and are popular in the season. The larger Plage de Trestraou has more services, such as cafés, a sailing school and a promenade, and is often used as the main base.

The cove suits walkers, families who want a quieter beach, and those who enjoy the changing character of a tidal coast. Entry to the shore is free.
