Basilique Saint-Sernin

The Basilica of Saint-Sernin in Toulouse is the largest Romanesque church in France and a UNESCO World Heritage site. It serves as a major stop on the Way of St. James pilgrimage route. Built between the 11th and 14th centuries in honor of St. Saturnin, the basilica features a 21-meter high nave, medieval frescoes, and a crypt housing the enamel reliquary of the True Cross. Recent restorations include a contemporary rose window by artist Jean-Michel Orthoniel.

The church is open daily from 8:30 am to 7:00 pm from June to September, and from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm from October to May. The crypt and ambulatory are open daily from 10:00 am to 6:30 pm (Sundays 1:00 pm–5:00 pm) in summer, and from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm (Sundays 1:00 pm–5:00 pm) in winter. Entry may be restricted during religious services. There is a fee to enter the ambulatory, which opens daily from morning until evening. The activity duration is approximately 1 to 1.5 hours.
