Château de Brest

The Château de Brest is a striking fortress overlooking the harbor, classified as a historic monument since 1923. It is Brest's oldest museum and houses the National Navy Museum, bearing witness to 17 centuries of history. The museum retraces the history of the Brest Arsenal and the French Navy through 15 permanent exhibition rooms. These rooms display art objects, navigation instruments, paintings, model ships, and furniture, offering a comprehensive look at the region's maritime heritage.

The site is open daily from 10:00 am to 6:30 pm between April and September. From October to March, it is open from 1:30 pm to 6:30 pm, but it is closed on Tuesdays. Last entry is one hour before closing time. Admission costs €9 online or €10 at the ticket office, with an additional €2 for an audioguide. Reduced rates are €7 online or €8 at the ticket office. Admission is free for specific groups, including those under 18, EU residents aged 18–25, and military personnel.

Visitors should note that the site is not accessible to people with reduced mobility or pushchairs due to many steps. However, baby carriers are available at reception. The fortress provides stunning architecture and a rich maritime context, making it a significant cultural destination.
