Musée des Jacobins

The Musée des Jacobins, housed in the historic Couvent des Jacobins, is a masterpiece of 13th-century Southern Gothic architecture in Toulouse. Built starting in 1215, the site is renowned for its unique double-nave church featuring luminous vaults and trompe l’œil wall paintings that imitate marble. A spectacular stone palm tree with 22 leaf veins stands beneath the rear ceiling, supported by 22 pillars arranged radially. The bell tower, constructed in 1298, served as a model for bell tower architecture in southern France.

Beneath the altar lie the relics of St. Thomas Aquinas, adding significant religious and historical weight to the site. Visitors can explore tranquil areas such as the cloister and chapels, which often host concerts and exhibitions. The museum offers an interactive experience with touchscreen tablets and family trails to enhance engagement.

Located at 10 Place des Jacobins, the site is open Thursday through Sunday from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Admission is 5 EUR for adults, with reduced rates of 3 EUR available for certain categories. Entry is free for children under 6, disabled persons, and holders of the Toulouse Tourism Pass. A recommended visit duration is 1–2 hours.
