Palace of Versailles (Château de Versailles)

The Palace of Versailles, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979, is a historic monument and former royal residence located southwest of Paris. Conceived by Louis XIV to glorify the monarchy, it served as the principal residence for French kings from 1682 to 1789. Originally a hunting pavilion for Louis XIII, the palace was expanded into a masterpiece of French classical architecture, covering approximately 63,154 square meters with roughly 2,300 rooms. In 1837, King Louis-Philippe transformed it into the Museum of the History of France, housing collections depicting significant historical figures and events.

Visitors can explore the Palace, the Estate of Trianon, the Gardens, and the Park. The Palace is open daily from 9:00 am to 6:30 pm, except on Mondays. The Estate of Trianon opens at 12:00 pm, while the Gardens and Park are accessible from early morning until 6:30 pm or 8:30 pm depending on the season. Due to the closure of the RER C line from July 15 to August 22 and traffic restrictions during the Tour de France, visitors are advised to use Transilien lines L or N and public transportation.

Admission tickets should be purchased exclusively through the official ticket office to avoid counterfeits. Discounted rates are available based on nationality, age, or visit time.
