The Grand Trianon
18th-century pink marble palace in the Trianon estate
The Grand Trianon, located within the Estate of Trianon at the Palace of Versailles, offers visitors a retreat from the main palace’s grandeur. Built by Louis XIV as a private residence to escape court formalities, it is a marble palace featuring elegant architecture and serene gardens. The estate opens daily from 12:00 pm to 6:30 pm, with closures on Mondays, December 25th, January 1st, and May 1st. During July and August, opening hours may extend to 10:00 am, but visitors should verify current schedules as times can vary.
Access to the Trianon estate requires a ticket that includes entry to the Grand Trianon, Petit Trianon, and the Queen’s Hamlet. General admission fees apply, though visitors under 18 or EU residents under 26 enter for free. Mandatory time slot reservations are recommended for Palace access, and online purchases offer priority. The estate is accessible via three train stations, with car and bicycle parks available nearby. Audioguides in multiple languages and a mobile app provide interactive maps and real-time updates to enhance the visit.
The Grand Trianon’s gardens are open daily, with free access to the Park and Gardens except during fountain shows. The site is designed for leisurely exploration, allowing guests to appreciate the intimate scale of the palace and its landscaped grounds. Facilities for visitors with disabilities are in place, ensuring broad accessibility. This historic site offers a peaceful alternative to the main palace, highlighting the personal life of the French monarchy through its refined architecture and tranquil setting.
