Parc de la Vésone in Périgueux serves as a green sanctuary that seamlessly integrates modern architecture with ancient history. Located at 20 rue du 26ème Régiment d'Infanterie, the park is home to the Vesunna Gallo-Roman Site-Museum and the iconic Tour de Vésone. The park itself offers a peaceful setting for visitors to explore the remnants of the ancient city of Vesunna, which was situated on a meander of the Isle river.

The centerpiece of the site is the Tour de Vésone, a circular stone structure standing approximately 24 meters high. This tower is the preserved cella of a Roman temple dedicated to the goddess Vesunna, featuring walls two meters thick and a massive breach on the eastern side that reveals its inner construction. It represents a unique blend of Celtic roots and Roman influence. Adjacent to the tower, the Vesunna Museum, designed by architect Jean Nouvel and opened in 2003, houses protected Gallo-Roman remains, including an ancient urban residence. Inside, visitors can view jewelry, ceramics, and painted plasterwork that illustrate daily life in Périgueux’s early history.

Visitor logistics vary by season. From October to March, the museum operates Tuesday through Friday from 9:30 to 17:00, and weekends from 10:00 to 18:00. During April to June and September, weekday hours extend to 17:30. July and August see daily operations from 10:00 to 19:00. The site is closed on Mondays and public holidays. Admission is €6 for adults, with reduced rates available. The park provides disabled access, making it an inclusive destination for those interested in Périgord’s rich historical heritage.
