Parterre d'Eau

The Parterre d'Eau is a central feature of the Gardens of the Château de Versailles, offering visitors a grand introduction to the estate’s formal landscape design. Located directly in front of the palace, this expansive area is defined by its symmetrical layout and water features, which reflect the architectural majesty of the château. The gardens are open daily, with the Park accessible from 7:00 am to 8:30 pm and the Gardens from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm. Access to the gardens is free; however, admission fees apply on Tuesdays through Sundays from April to October, specifically on days featuring fountain shows and Musical Gardens.

Visitors can explore the grounds using audioguides available in 12 languages or the official mobile app for interactive maps and real-time updates. Strict security measures are in place, including bag checks, and items exceeding 55x55x25 cm are not admitted. The estate is accessible via three train stations, and facilities for visitors with disabilities are available. Parking is available at the Queen's Gate for 12 euros per vehicle.

While the Parterre d'Eau itself does not have separate opening hours, its experience is enhanced by the seasonal water displays. Travelers are advised to purchase tickets exclusively through the official ticket office to avoid counterfeits. Discounted rates are available based on residency, nationality, age, or visit time. The area provides a spacious environment for walking and photography, allowing guests to appreciate the scale of the royal gardens. For those visiting between November and March, garden access is free every day, offering a quieter experience of this historic landscape.
