Musée de Sartène

The Musée d'Archéologie de la Corse, often referred to locally as the Musée de Sartène, is a significant cultural institution located at Bd Jacques Nicolaï, 20100 Sartène. Housed in a modern building adjoining the former prison above Place Porta, the museum offers panoramic views of the Gulf of Valinco. It serves as the primary archaeological repository for Corsica, holding over 250,000 objects in its reserves. The exhibits trace the island’s history from the first settlements approximately 10,000 years ago through the Genoese period in the 15th century.

Visitors can explore a diverse collection that includes prehistoric Bronze and Iron Age artifacts, Roman and Medieval items reflecting trade and conflict, and notable statue-menhirs, which are key examples of Mediterranean megalithism. Opening hours vary by season. From April 1 to May 31, the museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. During the summer months (June 1 to September 30), it operates daily from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. In the autumn and winter, hours shift to Monday through Friday, typically closing between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Admission is €4.00 for adults and €3.00 for reduced rates.
