Musée du Cheval

The Musée du Cheval in Saumur is dedicated to the history of the horse and equestrian arts. It is located within the Château de Saumur, a Gothic castle-palace historically known as King René's "Château d'Amour." The castle has served various roles, including a princely palace, citadel, prison, and garrison. The City of Saumur purchased it in 1906 to house the municipal museum, restoring its original architecture.

The museum features a "Games and Jousts on Horseback" exhibition on the second floor, showcasing selections from the equestrian collection. The first floor displays decorative arts, including tapestries, ceramics, and furniture.
