Dinard

Dinard, situated in the Ille-et-Vilaine department of northwestern France, is a town with a distinct historical and social identity. Historically, it was a small fishing village until the mid-19th century, when the arrival of British visitors, who were attracted by its mild climate, started a boom, followed later by the railway and the French aristocracy. The Promenade du Clair de Lune is a scenic walk along the seafront, offering views of the Rance Estuary and, on clear days, the islands of Chausey far to the north. The Plage de la Grande Grève is a wide sandy beach, popular for swimming and sunbathing, as are the Plage du Pâquis and the town's central beach. The Casino Barrière de Dinard is a historic landmark on the beachfront, offering gaming and entertainment as well as sea views. The Parc de la Touche is a quiet park with trees and paths, and the Quai des Indes and Place du Maréchal Foch are lively places near the harbour and centre. The Église Saint-Sauveur is the town's main church. Getting to Dinard is convenient via train, with regular services to Saint-Malo from Rennes and Paris; from Saint-Malo, a short boat or road link reaches Dinard, and the town also has an airport with limited flights. By car, Dinard is accessible via the N137 and N176 roads around the Rance, with the N137 being the road toward Rennes. The best time to visit is from late June to mid-September, when the weather is warm and pleasant, ideal for beach activities and outdoor exploration. July and August are the warmest months, with average highs around 21°C, but also the busiest. Spring and autumn offer milder weather and fewer crowds, making them suitable for sightseeing and museum visits, and winter is cooler and quieter, with walks on the beach in strong light.
