Musée Maritime, Fluvial et Portuaire

The Musée Maritime, Fluvial et Portuaire de Rouen is located in Hangar 13 on the Quai Émile-Duchemin, housed in an old warehouse built by the Schiaffino Company. Founded by an association established in 1980, the museum opened to the public in 1999 during the Armada of Rouen. It covers approximately 900 m² and hosts over 2,000 objects, attracting around 10,000 visitors annually. The museum focuses on the history of the Port of Rouen and general navigation, both fluvial and maritime.

Key exhibitions include major historical moments of the port, such as WWII destructions, and the standardization of the Seine downstream from Rouen. Visitors can explore Rouen’s great sailing ships, particularly those involved in nickel transport to New Caledonia, and learn about merchant marine history through models of cargo ships. The boat building (batellerie) is highlighted by the display of the Pompon rouge barge. The site also features a traditional naval restoration workshop and an automotor barge in its courtyard.

The museum is open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm. It offers a special activity, an escape game titled "Le Trésor du Corsaire Normand," which involves a historical fiction narrative about Jean Fleury and a hidden treasure in the Seine. The museum actively seeks financial support and volunteers to sustain its activities. This site of memory tells the story of Rouen’s maritime heritage, offering an educational experience for those interested in naval history and local culture.
