Phare de l'Île Vierge

The Phare de l'Île Vierge, located in Plouguerneau in the Finistère department, is Europe’s highest lighthouse, standing at 82.5 meters. Built in the late 19th century, it was the last manned lighthouse in Brittany until 2012. The structure is a precious landmark for sailors and has illuminated the coast since 1902. Historically, the island was home to an abbey established by Conventual Franciscans around 1450.

Visitors can climb 397 stairs to reach the top of the lighthouse. The interior is lined with white opal glass tiles for protection. From the summit, guests enjoy panoramic views of the Léon reef coast, the English Channel, and the Celtic Sea. The top also features a former keeper's dormitory, offering a glimpse into the lives of the lighthouse keepers.

Access to the lighthouse is available via a short speedboat ride from Lilia harbor. This service operates between April and October. Admission fees are €9 for adults and youth, and €6 for children.
