The Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte, located in Maincy approximately one hour from Paris, is a masterpiece of 17th-century French architecture. It served as the prototype and inspiration for the Château de Versailles. The estate is historically significant as the site where Nicolas Fouquet hosted King Louis XIV on August 17, 1661, an event that led to Fouquet’s imprisonment. Its authentic period décor also made it a filming location for the TV series Versailles.

The estate is open daily from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm, with last ticket office access at that time, from March 14 to November 1. Admission fees for a standard day visit are €18 for the Château and Gardens combined, and €13.50 for the Gardens only. Reduced rates of €14.50 apply to students, job seekers, children aged 6–17, and people with disabilities. A family rate of €59 covers two adults and two to three children. Children under 6 enter for free.

Special events, such as Candlelit Evenings and The Grand Noël, require online booking and have slightly higher ticket prices ranging from €19 to €23. Wedding photography is prohibited on the estate. Visitors can explore the grand halls, ornate gardens, and extensive grounds, gaining insight into the opulence of the Grand Siècle. The site offers a profound cultural experience, highlighting the artistic and architectural achievements of the era. For the best experience, travelers are advised to check current event schedules and book tickets in advance for special occasions.
